Menopausal Disorder

What is Menopause?

Menopause often begins in a woman’s late 40s to early 50s, when her ovaries cease producing eggs and stop the subsequent release of hormones that initiates the monthly menstrual cycle. Perimenopause is the stage just before menopause when a woman’s menstrual cycles begin to become irregular and she may be affected by symptoms similar to menopause. A woman is considered menopausal when her menstrual cycle has been absent for 12 consecutive months. Perimenopause and menopause both leave many women struggling with their health, well-being and even their sense of self. It’s hard to resume normal living when plagued by disruptive symptoms like hot flashes, anxiety, weight gain and fatigue. Some women may also be affected by more serious conditions such as endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or cancer that can intensify the menopausal experience.

What is hormone replacement therapy?

Hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, uses top-quality compounded hormones to replace a portion of the hormones your body is no longer producing at high levels. HRT seeks to restore optimal hormonal balance, which in turn relieves the symptoms of hormonal imbalance.

HRT is a highly personalized treatment. The process begins with lab testing to determine your current hormone production. This allows your provider to craft a customized supplementation program to meet your needs.

There are a number of ways to deliver supplemental hormones. Pills, creams, gels, and injections are available.

Another popular approach is pellet therapy. This option uses tiny pellets inserted just beneath the surface of your skin to release a slow and steady stream of supplemental hormones.

How long does it take for hormone replacement therapy to work?

It takes time for your body to adjust to supplemental hormones. Your therapy may need to be adjusted over time to achieve optimal results. Rest assured you have the full guidance and support of the Sure Success Wellness Center team as you navigate this process.

Your active participation is an important part of successful hormone replacement therapy. Pay close attention to the messages your body sends, communicate with your provider about the ways your HRT is helping, and discuss with them areas that still need improvement. Be patient as you move through the process of tailoring your therapy plan.

What are bioidentical hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are an exact match of the hormones produced by your body and are derived from plant and natural sources. Bioidentical hormones are custom made by compounding pharmacists. They are not mass produced by the pharmaceutical industry. Bioidentical hormones are plant-based, usually using compounds found in soybeans or wild yams.

Are Bioidentical Hormones safe for me?

Hundreds of thousands of men and women have been treated successfully and with fewer side effects. Bioidentical hormones have a very distinct effect on the body that is not found with the use of synthetic hormones. Bioidentical hormones are indistinguishable from the hormones your body produces naturally, which means they act on the same receptors and initiate the same effects within the body as your own natural.
